The challenge

The challenge

The building carries a floor-to-ceiling curtain wall on every residential floor. That much glass produces serious solar heat gain on the south and west exposures, well beyond what a conventional masonry façade would generate. A standard residential HVAC assumption would not hold here, so the façade, not a default load table, had to drive the mechanical design.

The Project

The Project

We zoned the HVAC by unit and sized the fan coils for the load profile the curtain wall actually creates, rather than a conventional residential baseline.
